3 Hammer Challenge - 2019

Last year I wanted to get back to the basics of making. This year I also want to get back to the basics of playing. I've pursued 9 notes, played mutants, added bottom notes and in doing so I wonder if I've wandered off the path. Do too many notes dilute the original intention of the instrument?
One evening I was feeling nostalgic for the good ol' days and I dug up some of my favorite videos. Most were people playing the heck out of 7 note instruments and having way more fun than Ive been having lately. I felt both envious and inspired.
I am going to use this year's 3HC to travel back in time to when things were simpler.
I am going to make a 20" 7 note instrument. I've compiled a list of some of my favorite 7 note scales in D and I am going to let you, the viewer, vote on what scale I should make and if all goes well, this instrument will be ready to be given away on October 13th, the first international Handpan day.

Explore the scales on the virtual player

The offered scales can be explored using the virtual handpan, an original idea from Jonathan Heaven of Pantam.org. Check out both the digital and handpan offerings of jheavenART

Use the drop down menu to select the scale and buttons 1-9 to play each note.

3 Hammer Challenge - 2018

Inspired to get back to the roots of this art form I set aside all my tools and machines, selected 3 hammers, and set out to make a handpan 100% by hand. In having completed the task I am asking all the handpan makers in the world to take on The 3 Hammer Challenge! It will be fun, I promise...

P.S. Be sure to watch until the very end ;)
